There are three different types of Dachshunds based on their coat. The three types are: smooth, wire-haired, and long-haired dachshunds. These dogs may have certain patterns, or spots, on their fur. A dachshund may be dappled, double dapple, brindle, sable, or piebald.
There seven different solid colors in dachshunds, including: cream, red, blue & tan, chocolate & tan, isabella(fawn) & tan, black and tan, and black and cream. Various dachshunds may also be solid black, and although this is possible in purebred dachshunds, it is not recognized by the AKC.
