“Weiner dogs” may be two different sizes: standard or miniature. Standard-sized dachshunds range from 16-32 lbs; whereas miniatures are usually 11 lbs or below. The standard-sized version of this breed is usually around 8-9 in. tall at the shoulders. Miniature-sized doxies are 5-6 in. in height. Famously known for their long length, dachshunds are usually about 9 in “at the withers” (at the base of the neck, above the shoulders).
Some of the most common health problems on dachshunds are intervertebral disk diseases, patella luxation (having loose knees), hip dysplasia, obesity, as well as skin and eye problems. A “weiner dog’s” lifespan is from 12-15 years.
